KHAND GIRI, BHUBNESHWAR (ORISSA)

The Udaigiri caves are located in a pretty congested area. At the foothill, to the right is the Queen's palace, locally known as the Rani ka Naur. The two storey structure has eight entrance points in all and the exquisitely sculpted pillars coupled with the embellished arches are bound to leave one spellbound. Rani Ka Naur is topped by Ganesh Gumpha -10. The Gumpha owes its name to the elephant headed Ganesha that graces the rear wall of the cell. The Pavana Gumpha and Sarpa Gumpha, known as the Cave of Purification and Serpeant Cave, respectively also warrant a special visit.
